for the home

Psalm 84:3-4 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God.

Home is the hub of our lives. It is our safe place – the place where the messy parts of our lives happen. It is the place where we care for ourselves, our families, our friends, and sometimes strangers. Home-fashion icons like Martha Stewart and Rachael Ray put a lot of pressure on us to create a magazine-worthy environment in our homes. For most of us, this is not realistic and sometimes causes us to feel condemnation. What we tend to forget is that creating for the home is their full-time jobs and they have a crew of employees to help them out. Raise your hand if that is your circumstance. As for the rest of us, we have many other hats to wear. DIY may not even be your passion. It’s ok – fortunately for the non-crafty, there is Etsy.

I fall somewhere in the middle of Martha Stewart and I-need-Etsy. I really enjoy most cooking/craft/garden/DIY-type projects, however there are other things I enjoy and other responsibilities I have that don’t allow for the time to create the full magazine lay-out. I strive to steward my home in the spirit of excellence while guarding against the perfection trap. Proverbs 31:27  She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Through the years, I have spent a lot of time serving my family and friends with the creative passions the Lord gave me. I have juggled children, jobs, social responsibilities and home. I have learned and am still learning. Through this blog I would like to share the things I have learned and to keep learning from you. My hope is that whether you are a ‘Martha’ or an ‘Etsy’ you will glean some helpful information from these pages and share something from your lives as well. Let’s journey together.
